Coaching Diagram
Draw stoppages, drills and set plays on a footy ground and send them to your players. Free, and made for community coaches.
What it is
The Coaching Diagram is a drawing tool for football coaches. Pick a full or half ground, place your players, draw the movement, and you have a stoppage set-up, a drill or a set play you can show the group.
Tap Export and it becomes a picture, sized for a group chat, a story or a printout. Diagrams save to your own library, so the one you drew on the laptop is on your phone at training.
It runs on a phone, a tablet or a computer from a web address, and installs to the home screen like an app. Once it has opened with a connection it works with no signal, and saves when you are back online.
Why we made it
The Coaching Diagram was built to support community coaches. It is First Use’s gift to the game: free, for every coach who wants it.
Volunteer coaches plan sessions at the kitchen table and explain set plays on the back of a hand. A stoppage drawn on the whiteboard works until the players walk away. We wanted every coach to be able to draw it once, clearly, and put it in every player’s pocket.
There is no paid version. A free account is there only so your diagrams follow you between devices, and they are stored in Australia.
How you could use it
A few ways coaches could use it:
- Before training: draw the drill and send it to the group chat, so players arrive knowing the set-up.
- At the ground: open the stoppage set-up on your phone between drills instead of redrawing it.
- Set plays: draw the centre bounce, ball-up or throw-in with each role named, and share it before the game.
- After the game: redraw what happened next to what you wanted, and talk through the difference.
- Juniors: use numbers or first names on the diagram, not photos.
